Elephant Koi are usually rather peaceful by nature and will, if they aren't provoked, will even allow themselves to be touched and, to some extent, ridden. However if they feel threatened or annoyed they will rush and attack, not usually intending to cause harm but doing great damage anyway thanks to their large size and strength.
They are actually quite common in the waters under Avavel, though due to the difficulty of traversing the terrain to reach the waters - scaling several hundred meters down the cliff-side - they are rarely seen.
It is the dream of many a koi breeder to be able to have an elephant koi to add to their collection, but so far none have been successful at securing one of the fantastic fish, let alone constructing a pond big enough for them to live in.
It would be quite a feat to try to capture an elephant koi - they are large, strong, powerful, and fast. However it is thought if they can find them when they are nothing more than grapefruit sized eggs or tiny fry (baby fish) then they can be easily transported out of Avavel's deep waters and into private ponds.
Rogue, violent elephant koi have been known to exist from time to time. These creatures simply seem to take offense to the existence of any foreigners in their waters and will actively chase them and try to bash them into the waters. Their attacks are quite persistent and violent - often trying to slay the creature is the only escape from drowning or being crushed to death.
- Elephant Koi regularly shed their scales as they grow larger. The scales have been known to have energizing effects on normal species of koi if ground up and mixed in their pond water - it helps them to grow larger, stronger, and healthier.
- If you do ever find yourself with a freshly expired Elephant Koi it is worthy to note that while the death of such a beautiful creature is sad, they do make delicious sashimi! Many people will be willing to pay a lovely sum for this delicacy too!
