For time untold the planet of Laia has been a shelter for an abundance of life, turning around a powerful sun and accompanied by sibling planets that its people have yet to discover. Laia has seen the dawn and extinction of life upon its surfaces several times, each era weaving its own complex stories and meaning out of the time it possesses. Eras of mundane life and magic have come and gone, each marking themselves in their own way and leaving behind no one to remember their names. This current era, began so long ago, is a time of powerful magics and lush growth, a time of frantic diversity in species and spells that has given rise to powerful beings known as Gods as well as hundreds of races of less powerful but more numerous mortals. These beings have constantly pushed at the edges of the limits of magic, redesigning the planes of magic and life as never before.
Yet merely a millennium ago it seemed as though all life in this current era would be extinguished. Those same powerful beings who had sought to find the edges of magic and life had found it; a once lush and populated world quickly fell prey to the overwhelming power of the empty, consuming energy that enveloped much of the planet and warped the minds of many of the powerful Gods and mortals. Life fed on life, but no longer beget it. Left unchecked every scrap of life energy on the planet would have been consumed and this era ended, leaving a barren planet to await the passing of eons for a new era to arise. Only the sacrifice of one of the most ancient goddess preserved the force of life at the last moment, leaving Laia and its people to heal... though the force of her spell shattered the planet and its place in the dimension of space.
To save the planet, the ancient goddess cast a spell that divided the energies of the world into different realms, desperate to stop her godly siblings from their destruction of their planet and themselves. She succeeded and the main energies of the world - Holy, Dark, and Mortal - were divided into their own realms, the Holy and Dark realms overlaying the Mortal realm like a badly reflected shadow. Yet to shake a planet apart from its very core energies is a dangerous and bold action - the spell shattered the planet, creating deep rifts filled with twisted energy known as the Abyss. In reference to these rifts, the spell that keeps the Holy, Dark, and Mortal worlds separate is known as the Abyss Spell.
Laia, even so damaged, is a fertile place. Although not as lush as before, the passage of the centuries have allowed for the Mortal realm to recover. Though the populace of the planet was almost destroyed, many species and cultures have been able to recover and establish themselves in their old homes or new lands. Though once this was an era of high civilization, much of that knowledge has been lost - now the civilizations of the world have been set back thousands of years, old maps have been lost, ancient cultures destroyed...
Yet, though much has been lost, in many ways that simply leaves more to be discovered. The people of Laia have entered a time of discovery and exploration, seeking out their old knowledge and roots while also learning of the new lands and people that have flourished around them...
A note on World Expansion?.
Map of Rediscovered Territories - Estimated 1/8 of the Planet
FioriaA fertile, expansive continent named long ago for its abundance of plant life and greenery. The intense life-force of that greenery aided the gods in making a final stand during the Abyss War. The Abyss splits the continent in two, the ancient spell plaguing the lands with intense fluctuations of life energy and the appearance of lesser gods and demons. Despite the Abyss a number of civilizations have developed across Fioria, including Mossleaf Village and the re-established city of ancient knowledge, Avavel. |
KirishKirish is a huge floating landmass that sits high above the clouds. Rarely any land creature knows it exists, and it keeps well enough protected for one to have yet to see it. This land is filled with beautiful architecture, giant flowers, floating fish, gentle and fearsome creatures, and Fae (Or Faeries). The land holds pride in their precious color, and their perfectly flowing rainbows. The people that occupy this land have a lot to do, whether they are pirates that sail through the skies, rainbow collectors that collect the colors from spent rainbows and dispose of them, or simply a scholar that knows all there is to know about their land. Kirish holds itself to high standards and the government rarely does a thing unplanned. |
AelnorAelnor is a very lush and fertile haven. Being further away from the abyss, the effects from it in Aelnor are far less harsh than many of it's neighboring lands. This land is home to many forests, lakes, and rivers, and even many kinds of creatures. The stories from the Aelnorian people also say that in the depths of their land, the clouds reach so far to the ground that one can reach up and touch them. Being so close to other lands, they rely heavily on trades for different types of ore because this land is not very mountainous. Because Aelnor is surrounded by ocean, they trade by boat, however, recently many ships have been attacked by the pirates that live in southern Aelnor. One very prosperous island off the coast of Aelnor is Flessaria |
NaitreA geographically complex continent to the east where rumors of spiral-shaped mountains and gigantic forests of crystals trickle out. The Ounaes populate most of the land, though flocks of Av'iahn are rumored to have settled in the Clouds-of-Blue Forest. Other species from around the world also appear, most living together in metropolitan cities bound by democracy and peaceful intentions. The main pursuits of all the people who inhabit Naitre are tinkering with new creations of some kind and fending off attacks from the Iron Continent. |
Selu DesertOnce part of the fertile, lush lands of the continent Fioria, Selu Desert came into existence when the Abyss spell was cast and the world was torn apart. The water and life-energy dried up and the sands began to claim the land. Several civilizations still thrive, by they are drastically changed from those that lived in these lands centuries ago and known for resorting to drastic measures to survive. Until recently no one was able to travel across the dimension-shattering scar of the Abyss to enter or leave the Desert. |
Ka'lidorThe bitterly cold ice and snow continent to the north, cradling the Abyss and isolated from the world by extremely strong currents that dominant the near-by oceans. The peoples who populate this unforgiving stretch of land are almost exclusively warlike, though rumor has it that there are extremely peaceful races clear as glass who hide deep within the ice. Civilizations descended from the fierce warriors that were trapped here at the end of the Abyss Wars have honed their mercilessness and stage bloody territory battles. Black castles rise up across the ice next to volcanoes that spew ice and underground caverns grow lush greenery in false sunlight. However, some lands in this bitter-cold wonderland don't follow the patterns of many civilizations that make up this continent. You can see an example of that through the Slikan Kingdom to the south. |
Airu OceanA turbulent ocean shaped by extreme currents and powerful forces of magic that that lies to the east of Fioria and south of the Abyss. While the rushing currents and bleeding magic of the Abyss makes the waters quite dangerous in many areas, Airu Ocean is also extremely abundant in an exhilarating variety of life. Many of the scattered islands throughout its waters support entire peoples with the bounty of the ocean. In the heart of Airu Ocean is the core of Zora territory, the waters of Zidara. |
Iron ContinentA vicious land whose surface is made entirely of warped twists of metal that claw at the sky. Not a single scrap of green grows anywhere on the entire land, though forms of fungi and weak legumes are grown by the civilizations that make their homes deep, deep under the iron crust. Many of the civilizations that dwell here live several day's travel below the surface, all the way to the lava-fires of the planet. Several slave races are kept as workers to extend the mines and train for battle, with the master races associating with the fire demons and goddesses of the metals. This is an entirely different world than the land of open air and sunlight above. The salt-water of Airu Ocean laps at the edges of the land and rusts the metal, causing it to bleed into the ocean and bathe the surrounding coast in blood-red water. |
Li Di OceanA becalmed ocean that lies off the coast of Selu Desert, providing the peoples of the intense land with the sight of endless, undrinkable water. Li Di Ocean is excessively salty and chokes the life from many of the creatures that attempt to survive within its waters. Great slimy species of eel - some as large as entire long-boats - appear to be the only creatures that thrive in these waters, and even their numbers are limited after centuries of overfishing. Along the coast are forests of salt pillars that spread into the canyons and sand of the desert. No one has ever explored across the ocean - there has never been enough fresh water to sustain a voyage that long and there is almost never any wind to fill sails. |
Odari OceanThought to be the deepest of the known oceans with dark blue depths that are almost entirely unexplored. All ships that travel into their area take care as the currents out to sea are extremely strong - vessels caught up in one of the streams may not be able to break free and find their way home again without years of voyaging. |
